Your quick guide to matches

Welcome fellow tankers! This is a quick guide which will teach you everything you need to know about GU league matches, and even more! So, let's start:

General

  • All matches are held on the HIX map.
  • All matches are of CTF type, with two teams: red and purple.
  • The duration of the matches is 20 or 30 minutes.
  • All matches have at least 4 players.
  • Every match is saved in a replay file.
  • You need to have asked permission from a guleague admin in order to spawn.
  • All teams are even, on rare cases though, one team might have one more player than the other (see below).
  • If you've joined as an observer, you'd better use the team chat, unless there is something everybody needs to know (e.g. 2 in should go to general chat, while Do you like cakes? goes to observer chat)
  • If two players to join during a match, they have to yell 2 in (which means that 2 players hould join the game) and every player has to agree. Then they should join on their corresponding team and commit suicide once before playing.

Official Matches (offi)

  • Official matches happen between members of two different teams (e.g. Reptiles face Apocalypse)
  • Official matches are recorded in the official guleague site and on this blog.
  • Winners are judged by number of flag captures (caps) only, not individual player score.
  • After every match, one player has to report its results (including GMT time, teams, score and duration) to a guleague admin.
  • Sometimes, a team might request 1 more player, making the game uneven. This is done in order to increase the fun of the game, but happens rarely. Consent of all players is required.

Fun Matches (fm)

  • Fun matches do not have limitations on who can join: There can be players from any team, and, for example, a Reptile might even face another Reptile.
  • Fun matches aren't reported (even though they are recorded), they only take place for fun.

Servers

  • Official and fun matches take place on the official guleague servers. A list can be found at http://www.guleague.org/Servertracker/. Abbreviations are used, such as we offi at brad's 57, which means "We should hold an official match at brad.guleague.org:5157".
  • Port 5159 is always used for replays.
